Conducted a one-day writing workshop at The Print School of Journalism for aspiring journalists, students, and professionals. The session focused on sharpening writing craft through clarity, precision, and voice, with an emphasis on the demands of print and digital media.
In this session, participants explored diverse approaches to capturing the essence of their cities through words. Drawing from personal experiences, adopting the perspective of a first-time tourist discovering local legends, or immersing themselves in the city’s pulse by walking and eavesdropping, the goal was to articulate the urban landscape. The discussion pondered the choice of the narrator, questioning whether an individual perspective suffices or if a collective voice from city residents is essential. The dynamic nature of a city poses a challenge in portraying its vibrancy on the static page, urging participants to explore creative expressions.
The session took a closer look at the book ‘Beyond the Boulevards: A Short Biography of Pondicherry,’ offering insights into the author’s process. The session concluded with on-the-spot writing, allowing for a hands-on exploration of the discussed concepts.

Delivered an Author Talk on the Indian city of Pondicherry.
Pondicherry, the South Indian coastal town, union territory and former French colony, is a city unlike any other in India. Here the game of petanque is as commonplace as a mini-thali sambar-rice lunch, or the briny tang drifting out of Goubert Fish market first thing every morning. Beyond its hybrid identity, the city is also an important spiritual centre, a hub for alternative education, a quasi-extension of the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu, an ecological and environmental bastion - and, thanks to a liberal liquor license, a party town.
Gathering celebrated novelists, poets, translators, editors, teachers, and scholars from India, the US, and the UK, “Writing across Borders” launched a multifaceted discussion of interconnected literary futures in Asia, Europe, North America, and beyond. Srikanth Reddy, Professor, Department of English, Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture, Committee on Creative Writing, University of Chicago moderated this session on “Creative Writing Programs in a Global Context.” Panelists included John Wilkinson, University of Chicago; Amit Chaudhuri; Saikat Majumdar, Ashoka University; and Aditi Sriram.
